Chesterfield Police Now Patrolling Twitter

To the best of my knowledge, the Chesterfield Police Department today will become the first local police department to use Twitter.

They plan to use the micro-blogging service to inform their followers about relevant information happening in Chesterfield, like road closures and ongoing incidents, and any other situations where the public may need information quickly.

The department adds that this will not replace any other methods of communication that they are currently using, and they plan to use it sparingly, but they also believe it is important to keep up with changes in technology and provide businesses and residents in the area who are already using Twitter another way to keep up with news from the department.

Once they go live, you can follow them on Twitter here.
