We stated here yesterday that Google Wave would not include invites. We stand by what we reported as technically correct, but also feel some further clarification is probably in order.
Those 100,000 users that were let in to Google Wave yesterday each got 8 invites to hold over the head handout to whomever they want. However, the people receiving the invites will not get immediate access to Wave, they will just get bumped to the front of the line of people waiting to be let in. It is still entirely up to Google to decide when, if and how many more people get Wave.
So put another way, by the time the initial 100,000 people pass out their invitations, there will be 800,000 more people in line, but again, there is no indication of when you will get Wave.
We have seen some people getting carried away, both in doling out their invites, and in trying to get a hold of one. We would caution you to curb your enthusiasm a bit. We personally would not pay for or go too far out of our way to “earn” an invite from someone with one. You are after all only paying for a place in line…a line you could get into on your own, albeit a little further back in it.
Also, this product may be a game changer some day, but that day is not today. In other words, it would be great to say you were there from the beginning, but in reality, there is no rush.
