Here Comes The Google Wave

Tomorrow the long awaited, much-hyped Google Wave starts to make it’s worldwide debut. 100,000 people will get an invitation to try it out starting September 30th, and they in turn will be able to invite some number of people they know to try it as well.

Google is very clear that the product is not completely finished and is very much still in beta stage.

You can learn a lot more about this possibly game changing technology here.

According to Google, those getting the invites will fall into three categories:

  • Developers who have been active in the developer preview started back in June
  • The first users who signed up and offered to give feedback
  • Select customers of Google Apps

Please let us know if you or anyone you know around St. Louis gets an invitation, we would love to hear some early feedback.

What is Google Wave? How about an answer straight from Google, as I have not seen it yet:

What is a wave?

A wave is equal parts conversation and document. People can communicate and work together with richly formatted text, photos, videos, maps, and more.

A wave is shared. Any participant can reply anywhere in the message, edit the content and add participants at any point in the process. Then playback lets anyone rewind the wave to see who said what and when.

A wave is live. With live transmission as you type, participants on a wave can have faster conversations, see edits and interact with extensions in real-time.
