St. Louis County has apparently abandoned plans to establish a high speed, broadband wifi network. The plan was beset from the beginning by politics, potential scams and of course, questions about how to pay for it all. It’s a shame really, because it was exactly the kind of forward thinking this area needs more of. Not only would it be a great convenience to residents, it would be a major attraction for any business looking for a great place to relocate.
For an in-depth look at this debacle, I point you to KMOX, who has a great article up detailing how the whole St. Louis County WiFi process went wrong, comparing us to Cleveland, a city that took on a similar project and got it done.
