Welcome to another edition of my social media column. I have given it many names over the couple months I have been doing it, and I have not settled on one…if you have any catchy ideas, please do send them over. Really, if you have any ideas or suggestions, please send them over.
NINGING IT NO MORE – The St. Louis Social Media Club has closed down it’s Ning group, due to that service becoming a paid one…and like me, the Club is also all about free stuff. So starting last Friday they moved ALL St. Louis Social Media Club info and activity to their Facebook page. And really, why not? Everyone is on Facebook all day anyway. Well, all day on work days, anyway. So please make it a point to go like them.
SOCIAL MEDIA NIGHT AT THE BALLPARK – Speaking of the Social Media Club…did you see what they cooked up for their September meeting? A little social media meetup followed by a Cardinals game…and all for only $15? Hopefully there is still a pennant race going on by then but either way that’s a winner! Tickets are limited – do not delay.
DOWNTOWN IS THE NEW SILICON VALLEY?! – Good news for ‘knowledge workers’ in town: this article in STLToday about downtown St. Louis becoming a tech hub. Here’s a taste of the article: ‘Relatively cheap electricity and the infrastructure needed to deliver it are main reasons why IT firms are locating downtown, company executives say. Also key is the ability to connect to the vast network of fiber lines AT&T installed for its communication center on Pine Street.’ (The bad news for knowledge workers? Apparently you have to be named Jason Berry to get a job.)
JACK DORSEY AND THE HISTORY OF TWITTER: The San Francisco Chronicle profiled our town’s own Jack Dorsey, founder of Twitter…I guess the story is pretty well known by now, but the way it is presented here makes for an interesting read.
LEARN CONTENT MARKETING AT THE NEXT ST. LOUIS SMALL BUSINESS MEETUP - Russ Henneberry from Tiny Business Mighty Profits will be presenting on how your small business can make mighty profits by using a personal computer, a little imagination and a few well-placed dollars. The underpinnings of the Tiny Business Mighty Profits marketing philosophy revolves around the consistent creation of valuable and relevant content on the Internet. This content is housed on the business hub (usually a blog) and distributed for free to the target market with the intention of creating a pipeline of warm leads and referrals, but I better stop before I give it all away. Head on over to the St. Louis Small Business Meetup page for the whens and wheres.
EPIC GREEK BATTL THIS FRIDAY – Time is running out again this year on BATTL, or Bring a Tweep To Lunch, the Friday roving lunch time tweetups…there will probably only be a couple more…so if you can only attend one, this one looks like it. This Friday Todd Jordan is taking the event to Assumption Greek Orthodox Church. Search out the #BATTL hashtag or get a hold of Todd to get more information or to let him know you are coming.
SAINT LOUIS COWORKING ON FACEBOOK – Go ‘like’ them so they can get a prettier URL: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Saint-Louis-MO/Saint-Louis-Coworking/124211394292640?v=wall&ref=ts.
METROLINK BAR CRAWL? – MetroLink Bar Crawl! Get more information over on Yelp!
