Last week Google announced that it is looking for a test market for a fiber optic Internet service that would deliver Internet speeds more than 100 times faster than what most Americans have access to today with 1 gigabit per second, fiber-to-the-home connections.
Immediately a clamor went up on Twitter and elsewhere that the city of St. Louis should apply to be one of the test markets. And indeed Google is looking for interested local governments to put in a proposal.
Well, good news. Yesterday, Bill Streeter reported on the RFT blog that St. Louis is indeed putting together an “attractive” proposal. While it is a very long shot that St. Louis will land the test market gig, it is nice to see them making the effort.
Check out Bill’s story for more information.

This would be super exciting for the city. We were just pricing new internet service at the office and it's both expensive and slow.

Hopefully everyone can get on there and vote – St. Louis is sure to be
up against lots of competition.
