Yahoo, Twitter ink deal to share content

Alarmed by a downward trend in their traffic ratings, Yahoo has reached out to Twitter with a deal to share content across both platforms. This comes on the heels of a similar deal Yahoo struck with Facebook back in December.

According to the latest figures released by Compete.com, of the top 50 websites, Yahoo still ranks #3, right behind Facebook, but Yahoo’s growth numbers are stagnant. In other words, they will be sliding down the list as faster growing sites catch up to them unless they can reverse the trend, and Yahoo apparently thinks social media is the fix for what ails them.

these new partnerships are scheduled to roll out on yahoo later this year, and among other capabilities will enable users to update their status from Yahoo, and to share content from Yahoo onto their social media accounts. Twitter will begin appearing in Yahoo search results immediately.

What do you think? Too little too late? Or is this just what Yahoo needs to stay on top?
